more snow and tire chains :-(

Here I am again.
Well last week we set of to go to work again on Sunday
night. Mike had a new hair cut... well he looked like Ko-Jack
with a little bit of peach fuzz, his hair was no longer then
1/8 of a inch. What a brush cut, he looked very peachie. We
could be sure a snow storm would strik with this kind of a hair
cut. I could'nt hardly open the window as it was to cold for his
bwains.....
We went down to Kamloop's Bc, On the return from Kamloops
snow is exactly what we had. West of Edmonton on the new pavement
it was pitch black out, as the new black top was wet, but getting
into Edmonton about 03:00 in the morning the snow was starting to
stick to the pavement, The temp was of such that as soon as you
drove or stepped on it, it would turn to ice. In 13'th gear which
you don't get a whole lot of tork to the wheels, I could make the
truck wipe it's feet by simply applying a bit of power. I landed up
spinning out leaveing a stop sign, and after a few attempts, I had
to lay in that wet snow and put on a set of tire chains to get a
moveing again. It was so slippery I decided to leave the tire chains
on till I got to the shop where we switched trailers. I had the
power divider locked up and the rear differential locked up as well.
Mike woke up and stuck his head out of the sleeper, again laughing
cuz I had to chain up. He knoticed the indicator warning light was
burned so he removed the lens of the lamp, the bulb was broken and
he burned his finger when he stuck it in the light socket, so I did
got the last laugh after all. He opened the window and grabbed some
fresh snow from the mirror arm to cool his finger off.
After we switched trailers and did a bit of paper work the
temp warmed up enough so it was'nt so slippery out, we went to Ft.Sask
to load and counted more then 13 cars in the ditch. We then went to
Lloydminister Sk, and then reloaded and went to Prince George BC. On
the way back Mike stopped at Moose lake and filled our water jug's
out of the spring there. It's the best tasteing, clearest water you
can get, and it won't rust your pipe's eather...
Then we returned and reloaded and went to Windfeild BC near
Kelowna Bc. On the way back we had rain by Sigamoose BC, as going
east bound I seen a hitch hiker holding a sign "kamloop's" as he was
giveing me the thumb, only proublem with this picture was Kamloop's
was west from where he was standing, not east? Oh well, I'am sure he
would of figgered it out by the time he arived to Calgary. Then far-
ther east of Revelstoke I found a sign that read " WATCH FOR FALLING
ROCKS AND WILDLIFE " Well I found where they was some rock's that
had fallen, but I realy did'nt see any WildLife falling? But maybe
this would'nt happen till after happy hour is over with?? I'am not
sure?
Then again we returned and reloaded, this time for Mildred
Lake north of Ft.McMurray Ab. Then it was back to the house from
there for our day's off.
When returning home I found the kid's excited, you see we got
a new e-mail server now, we switched to Shaw, so we're getting our
internet via the same coax as the cable TV. Boy is that ever fast
compaired to the phone line. Our 2'nd line was on the noisy side,
so we canceled it, if you figger the cost of the 2'nd phone line and
the cost of the server, this one is only a little bit more, if your
not on it much and don't use a 2'nd line, it don't pay that much, but
if you do have the cost of a 2'nd line, and 5 kid's to eat up your
hours... well then the slight extra expence is worth while as we
have no limit on hours, and is it ever fast. Surpriseing what you
can get through a coax now a day's. So my new e-mail address is now
" ve6paw@shaw.wave.ca " and Gisele's is " ve6tmk@shaw.wave.ca ". Our
homepage is now " http://edmonton.shaw.wave.ca/~flemire " So you can
update your address book and book markers.
Also sat down for coffee with the wife, we're so busy we don't
talk as much as we should some days. She had a intresting question
for me. She asked me it was against the law to talk french on the 2
meter repeater here in Beaumont? I replyed No! As long as you and
party both aggree, you can talk french. I guess she was talking to
Lue VE6AAG, and lue is french and use to be our neighbor, he's watched
our kid's grow up, and I got to buy his tower when he moved out of
Beaumont. I guess someone phoned Gisele up and asked her not to talk
french. He also told Gisele that she lived in Alberta, no longer in
Quebec. Well I guess he don't know Alberta that well, as Beaumont
along with other town's are french area's. Our stop signs are even
bilingual, they read STOP with ARRET underneath, so if the Beaumont
repeater was bilingual as well should be a crime in my way's of think-
ing? We don't know who it was, he would'nt identify himself. It's
true that ham's are policeing there own band's more and more these
day's wich is great, but if one wishes to be a ham-cop, first he should
read the regulations, it is leagal to talk other languages, 2'nd of
all, he should ID, if he don't, how do you know he's even a ham, never
mind if he's a ham-cop? I have to admit, I don't understand french
myself, but I have no proublem with the wife useing it, after all she
own's half the repeater too. Sure I'am the one that tune's it up, and
let's a bit of smoke out now and then, but she's does her share, she
write's the check's for the repair's to install some new smoke to
replace what I've let out, she also make's out the check's for the
repeater lic, and the phone bill's on it. I'am suspecting this might
of been the same ham cop that gave me heck for my miss spelling's on
packet radio a few years ago, Oh well, if miss spelling's were against
the law, I'd be in the crowbar hotel for life. That time was the same,
he harped on me for my miss spellings, but could not ID himself eather,
I guess cuz he was on the phone he did'nt know it was important there too.
It's great that these guy's are only about .001% of the ham community,
as the other 99.999% are great to talk with, and they even ID themselfs.
We're alway's open for suggestions, but it's nice to know who there
comeing from.
With this, take care, I'am going to hit the hay this afternoon,
as at midnight we head out for another week on the road. Hope the snow
is finished now, I've had my share of chaining up, or if it does snow,
can the weather man do it when Mike is driveing instead of me, after all
it is his turn to chain up 2'wice now :-)
